Knowledge/Skills/Physical Requirements

  • The Gifted and Talented Teacher is responsible for designing and implementing specialized instruction for students identified as gifted and talented. This role involves creating challenging and enriching learning experiences that cater to the unique needs and abilities of these students, fostering their intellectual, social, and emotional growth.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of, and an ability to relate to, youth.
  • Understanding of the role of the classroom teacher and the public school’s relationship to the community and the people served.
  • Capacity to make thoughtful decisions based on facts, knowledge, and insight, and the courage to stand by the results.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, small and large groups, by correspondence or oral expression.
  • Ability to organize and plan effectively.
  • Possess an ethical and professional attitude toward colleagues and the policies of the district.
  • Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
  • Occasionally requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend, and reach.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  • Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
  • Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

Position Responsibilities

 

  • Develop differentiated curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of gifted and talented students.
  • Identify and assess students for giftedness using various assessment tools and methods.
  • Collaborate with other educators, administrators, and parents to support the development of gifted and talented programs and services.
  • Capacity to accept criticism calmly and with dignity, and without adopting a defensive attitude.
  • Handle requests, misunderstandings, or difficulties through proper administrative channels.
  • Create and maintain a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Maintain communication and a working relationship with members of the staff and central office staff.
  • Dress professionally and in a manner that will not interfere with the educational environment.
  • Work cooperatively with the directors and administrators in the supervision and coordination of the respective programs.
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction to address specific academic and social-emotional needs of gifted students.
  • Foster a love of learning and intellectual curiosity among gifted students through engaging and challenging activities.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional technologies and resources to enhance learning experiences and promote independent inquiry.
  • Monitor and track student progress, adjusting instruction as needed to ensure continuous growth and development.
  • Maintain a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual records for the purpose of documenting activities and providing reliable information to all stakeholders
  • Advocate for the needs of gifted and talented students within the school community and beyond, and promote parent and student involvement.
  • Stay knowledgeable of current research, trends, and best practices in gifted education to inform instructional practices and program development.
  • Challenge our higher order and critically thinking students by using project based activities, robotics, coding, and engineering. 
  • Be positive, proactive, and promote statewide and/or national competitions.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Building Principal and/or Assistant Principal.
