Knowledge/Skills/Physical Requirements
- To serve in a central office capacity with general supervisory responsibility in conjunction with the school principals for the development and coordination of all special services for the District.
- Assume a leadership and administrative role with responsibilities in areas listed in special services.
- Possess a thorough understanding of, and an ability to relate to, youth.
- Five or more years of special education teaching experience.
- Understanding of education and the public school’s relationship to the community and the people served.
- Capacity to make thoughtful decisions based on facts, knowledge, and insight, and the courage to stand by the results.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, small and large groups, by correspondence or oral expression.
- Ability to organize and plan effectively.
- Possess an ethical and professional attitude toward colleagues and the policies of the district.
- Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
- Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
- Occasionally requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
- Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend, and reach.
- Requires ability to travel.
- Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Requires physical and emotional endurance.

- Leave policies, and fringe benefits as stated in Board policies.
- Maintain regular office hours Monday through Friday except when away at meetings representing the district, vacation, and holidays. Spend the necessary time required to fulfill the duties of the position.
- Be a member and participant in the activities of professional organizations.
- Opportunity to continue professional preparation with the prior approval of the Superintendent.
- Opportunity to attend professional meetings at district expense.
- Work cooperatively with administration and staff throughout the district.

Position Responsibilities
- Supervise the special education process from referral to placement and act as a resource to building teams for diagnostic staffing, IEP development, and strategies for students.
- Assist building administrators in the candidate selection process, professional development, supervision and evaluation of special education personnel.
- Coordinate in-service training activities related to special education and general education personnel.
- Coordinate services provided to parochial and private schools in the district.
- Coordinate and supervise contracted special services.
- Prepare and administer the special services budget and accounting procedures.
- Develop a systemic, comprehensive continuum of services to meet a wide range of student needs.
- Assume the legal responsibility of special education program compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Administer/coordinate homebound, ELL, and Medicaid reimbursement programs.
- Interpret the functions of special services to administration, teachers, parents, and public.
- Provide for the continuous evaluation of special services programs.
- Supervise financial expenditures and handling of district funds related to the special services program.
- Maintain communication and a working relationship with members of the staff and central office staff.
- Cooperate with central office administrators in the formulation and planning of district policies and procedures.
- Work cooperatively with the directors and administrators in the supervision and coordination of the respective programs.
- Assume the legal responsibility for pupil accounting, record keeping, and the execution of state and federal regulations.
- Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent.
- Supervise and coordinate the District EL, Homeless, and Homebound Services.
- Act as laiason for entry of foster children into the school system.
